Pre-recording
Everything you need to know about pre-recording. From the technical specifications to best practices.
Audio
- Use a headset or external microphone —it reduces echo and improves clarity.
- Record in a quiet environment —no background noise.
A smooth experience
- Internet stability: A wired connection is always best.
- Record in a single take (if possible): While we can edit, fewer cuts lead to a smoother final product.
- Time it: Ensure your presentation fits within your allocated session time.
Webcam
- Lighting: Position a light source in front of you (not behind). A ring light or natural light from a window facing you works well.
- Webcam: Use a good quality external webcam if available.
- Camera angle: Position your camera at eye level.
- Background: Choose a clean, uncluttered, and professional background. Avoid busy patterns or distracting items. No virtual backgrounds or blurred backgrounds.
- Framing: Position yourself so your head and shoulders are clearly visible, with some space above your head.
Preparing for live Q&A
Even with a pre-recorded session, a live Q&A is a chance to connect directly with your audience.
- Location and outfit: Be at the same location, with the same outfit as you were on the recording, so it all looks seamlessly live.
- Review your recording: Watch your pre-recorded session before the live Q&A to refresh your memory on specific points you made.
- Anticipate questions: Think about common questions that might arise from your content. Prepare brief answers or key points.
- Familiarise with Q&A / chat functionality: Understand how the live Q&A feature works on the event platform.
- Engage with chat: Consider jumping into the chat there to answer questions or comment in real-time as your recording plays.
- Be enthusiastic: Show your energy and appreciation for the audience’s questions.
- Keep answers concise: Aim for clear, brief answers to maximise the number of questions you can address.
