Umar is part of the BAME Fundraising Team at Barnardo’s which aims to engage with and fundraise from new communities. Umar focuses on BAME community engagement and has led on developing and launching Barnardo’s first Zakat compliant project this Ramadan, the Fundraising Teams first Black History Month event, and developing relationships with grassroots BAME organisations.
Outside of work, Umar personally develops and launches education and empowerment projects in Ghana and is currently launching a young girl's Vocational Training School and a girl’s dormitory for a school for those with special educational needs and disabilities.
How can we dispel the myths and stereotype around fundraising for communities of colour and make it easier for people of colour to access funding?
