Speaker tech guidelines

Internet connection:

  • Use a wired connection whenever possible.
  • If Wi-Fi is your only option:
    • Ensure you’re close to the router.
    • If you’re at home, ask others in your household to limit streaming/downloads during your session.
  • Minimum speed: 10 Mbps upload & download.
    • (You can test your speed at speedtest.net) .

Audio quality:

  • A headset or external microphone reduces echo and improves clarity.
  • Choose a quiet location where you won’t be disturbed.
  • Disable notifications on your devices.
  • When you’re not speaking, mute to help prevent echo or background noise.

Webcam setup:

  • Use a high-quality webcam.
  • Position the camera at eye level and ensure good lighting.
  • Avoid backlighting.
  • No virtual or blurred backgrounds.

Device and setup:

  • Use a desktop or laptop (not a tablet or phone).
  • Use Chrome or Firefox for best performance.
  • Close unnecessary apps and browser tabs to reduce distractions and free up resources.
  • If screen sharing, use a separate monitor and have your content ready in advance.

Test and troubleshoot:

  • Attend a tech rehearsal to familiarise yourself with the event platform and find out about session format.
    • Arrange a tech rehearsal by booking via this link.
  • Test your camera, mic, and slides in the event platform you’ll be using.
  • Join 15 minutes early on event day.
  • Keep a backup pair of headphones and your phone nearby (just in case).

  • On the day of the conference you will be supported by one of our engineers who will ensure everything goes smoothly from a tech perspective
