I have worked for CancerCare for three years as a Community and Events Fundraiser. I love every minute and how every day is different.

CancerCare was founded in 1983 and is an independent charity which provides free professional therapy for people struggling to cope with a cancer diagnosis or bereavement for any reason, not just as a result of cancer.

The charity has centres in Lancaster, Kendal and Barrow and they have just opened a new centre in Morecambe this May. It offers a wide variety of services including face-to-face counselling and complementary therapies including aromatherapy, reflexology, hypnotherapy and more.

CancerCare has a dedicated service for children and young people with specialist counsellors trained in play therapy and a weekly peer support group in Lancaster, Kendal and Barrow called Re-Fresh which is run by youth workers. The group takes part in a wide range of activities including gaming, baking, outdoor adventures, pet therapy days and enjoys day trips to Blackpool. It also runs a full programme of activities during the school holidays.

If you know of anyone struggling with cancer or grief cause by the loss of a loved one, do get in touch. No doctor’s referral needed, simply call 01524 381820 or visit for a chat with the therapy co-ordination team.

July 7, 2021

In partnership with #SmallCharityWeek Every day, small charities across the world uplift, repair, and add value to their community. They do this without big teams, reach, and sometimes – without budget. July’s conference is dedicated to giving a platform to the brilliant small charity fundraisers doing big things, and the people who help them. Join us for an action-packed two-hour summit that will give small charity fundraisers the tools they need to change the world, and remind larger charity fundraisers of the key skills we need for ongoing success. Topics include:
  • Maximising resource
  • Digital
  • Applying for and aceing your Radio 4 appeal
  • Effective communications (online and offline)
  • Data for small charities
  • Virtual vs hybrid vs in-person
  • Prioritising as a solo fundraiser
  • Managing volunteers
*NEW* Our two-track conference will now feature completely interactive workshops to make sure you get the answers you need for the challenges you face. Don’t worry introverts, we still have a track of camera-free presentations so you can lunch and learn.
