Talk Details
We love our community and live to serve it. Yet our third sector practices often perpetuate some of the injustices we wish to end. What would be possible if our work centered the communities we serve?
In this session we’ll discuss:
- Why traditional philanthropy is a problem
- History that shapes our third sector practices
- Define Community-Centric (Fundraising) movement and its principles
- Practice lead generation
In a time where many funding sources are drying up and trusts have changed their criteria, we’ll practice one tool that helps generate leads in a holistic community-centered way.
Community-Centric Fundraising (CCF) was founded in Seattle, Washington and has been growing into a global movement with thousands of people engaging in new ways of thinking about our work. Join us for this interactive session with Michelle Shireen Muri, co-founder of the Council for Community-Centric Fundraising, and host of The Ethical Rainmaker podcast, to learn:
- What? Deepen knowledge about the principles of community-centrism and learn about the racist roots of nonprofits and philanthropy
- So What? Reflect and and connect with colleagues around how we are complicit in upholding problematic systems
- Now What? Consider and explore next steps in moving towards equitable practices by using one community centered tool to help generate holistic leads.
Leave inspired and equipped to create next steps around your journey.
